Wednesdays @ One returns for the Fall season with a program from one of our favorite presenters, William Pack. Join us under the Baker Center “Big Top” for “Death-Defying Acts: The History of the Circus.”

Barnum may be the biggest name, but he was only a small part of the story of the circus. Prepare to take a fantastical journey through the history of the circus, from Phil Astley’s creation of the modern circus in 1768, to Dan Rice, “the most famous man you’ve never heard of,” to the incredible feud between Barnum and the Ringling Brothers.

You’ll hear stories of triumph, disaster, and the grand adventure of the travelling. Experience the story of those who gave their lives to the circus and became legends in the process.

“Wednesdays @ One” events are presented free of charge, thanks to the generous support of Colonial Cafe.

About William Pack

William Pack’s performing and communication skills have elevated his programs from lecture to an event experience, making him one of the most in demand presenters in the Chicago area.

As a child, Pack spent much of his summer hanging around his local library. With free access to the book collection, he discovered a voracious desire to read everything. He has used his passionate curiosity to create a  diverse collection of programs, covering biography, history, and science.

Born and raised in Chicago, Pack is a magician, storyteller, and author. At 11 years old, Pack got his first job in a magic shop and has been performing ever since. Pack has won numerous awards for his magic and comedy performances. In 2001, he taught actor Will Smith sleight of hand for his portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the film, Ali.
