“Music in the Gallery” returns with a unique performance by Pangelic, a harp and steelpan duo featuring harpist Faye Seeman and steelpan artist Liam Teague. They are joined in this performance by Jaden Teague-Nunez on piano, the “plus” in Pangelic Plus. Enjoy a rarely heard blend of sounds, performed by a trio of acclaimed artists.
Pangelic offers audiences a fresh and exciting blend of sonorities. Stepping outside conventional boundaries, Pangelic plays original compositions, jazz standards, and classics with improvisation arranged to compliment each instrument. Steelpan virtuoso Liam Teague offers a color palette of sounds, while harpist Faye Seeman, known for her musical versatility, provides a tapestry of creative ideas for the duo. Pangelic can be heard in recital at Northern Illinois University, on youtube, presenting master classes at colleges and universities, and concertizing throughout the Midwest. Together the spectrum of sounds created by these stellar musicians leaves listeners asking for more.
About Liam Teague
Liam Teague is Professor of Music and Director of Steelpan Studies at Northern Illinois University (NIU), where he also leads the renowned NIU Steelband. Teague is the recipient of an NIU Board of Trustees Professorship Award (2022) and a Presidential Research, Scholarship and Artistry Professor Award (2018).
Hailed as the “Paganini of the Steelpan”, his commitment to demonstrating the great musical possibilities of the steelpan has taken him to throughout the world, and he has received many awards from his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago, including the Hummingbird National Award (Silver) and the Ansa McAl Caribbean Award for Excellence. In 2022, The San Fernando City Council honored Teague with the Keys to the City of San Fernando, his hometown in Trinidad and Tobago. He is also the recipient of an Illinois Arts Council (IACA) 2023 Artist Fellowship Award. In 2024, the Fox Valley Orchestra honored Teague with its Champion of the Arts Award.
Teague has won several notable competitions such as the Trinidad and Tobago National Steelband Festival Solo Championship and the Saint Louis Symphony Volunteers Association Young Artist Competition. He has also performed with many diverse ensembles which include National Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan National Symphony, Czech National Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, Panama National Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, Vermeer String Quartet, Avalon String Quartet, Hannaford Street Silver Brass Ensemble, River City Brass Band, Nexus, Dartmouth Wind Ensemble, Indiana University Symphonic Band, University of Wisconsin-Madison Marching Band, Nutrien Silver Stars Steel Orchestra, and the BpTT Renegades Steel Orchestra.
About Faye Seeman
Faye Seeman is principal harpist with the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra, and holds positions as professor of harp studies at both Wheaton College and Northern Illinois University. As founder of the “Kithara” flute, cello and harp trio, she has led the group to notoriety through highly successful performances in recitals throughout the Midwest. Faye has distinguished herself as one of the most versatile harpists in the area, often venturing away from playing traditional classical repertoire. Together with her colleague steel pan virtuoso and professor at NIU Liam Teague, the dynamic musicians have reached out across boundaries yet unexplored in the musical community to form Pangelic. From original compositions to arrangements of classical selections, the two creative forces have woven improvisation, poetry, and art into the fabric of their music-making. Summers Faye is on the faculty of the Birch Creek Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin, and is a regular guest clinician and performer at the Midwest Harp Festival in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Seeman graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree, and attained a Master of Music Performance degree from Boston University, studying with the legendary harpist Lucile Lawrence.
About Jaden Teague-Nunez
Jaden Teague-Nunez is 18 years old and was born in Panama City, Panama. The son of Trinidadian and Panamanian parents, he began studying steelpan and piano at age 8 and 10, respectively.
He became the first steelpan soloist in the world to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra after winning the CSO’s Crain-Maling Foundation Young Artists Competition in 2024. In 2025, he was named YoungArts Winner with Distinction (classical percussion) by the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists. His work has been covered by Chicago’s WGN-Television and in several newspapers which include the Trinidad Newsday and Guardian.
Jaden has guested with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Fox Valley Orchestra, Wheaton Municipal Band, and the Northern Illinois University Steelband, and he has performed for the Nassau Music Society in the Bahamas and the 50th anniversary of Crop Over in Barbados. Teague-Núñez has played at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and at the 2023 Tuba Bach Festival and concertizes with his father Liam Teague as the duo TNTeague. He has also collaborated with virtuoso pianist Jodie Desalvo on her Piano Talks concert series. Jaden also practices mixed martial arts at United Elite MMA.
In Fall 2026, he will pursue a Bachelor of Music degree in steelpan performance at Northern Illinois University.
