There’s no one else in St. Charles better qualified to talk about the popularity and importance of group singing in our society than Jeff Hunt. The founder and music director of the acclaimed St. Charles Singers, Jeff Hunt joins our lineup of Wednesdays @ One presenters to explore various aspects of songs and singing, including the value and benefits of singing as a lifelong activity — plus a bit of the local history of singing in St. Charles.
“I have witnessed over my 40 plus years conducting St. Charles Singers and the Baker Memorial UMC church choir the many values and benefits of choral singing, including artistic achievement, socialization and general overall health benefits,” Jeff told us.
Jeff’s program also will touch on highlights from the St. Charles Singers’ 40 years of performances, including some audio segments.He will conclude with a look to the future for the choir, what lies ahead next season and beyond.
Jeff Hunt brings his focus on outstanding repertoire, communicative performances, and sincere singing to his programs. As founder and Music Director of St. Charles Singers, Jeff’s emphasis on musicality, combined with understanding, imagination, and transparency, has resulted in beautifully polished and endearing performances by an ensemble known for its exquisite singing.
In addition to directing St. Charles Singers, Jeff is director of music at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles and is a member of ACDA and Chorus America. He is a retired instructor of music at Elgin Community College. He received a B.M. from Taylor University and an M.M. in Choral Conducting from Northwestern University.
Jeff is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Charlemagne Award, a lifetime achievement award given to an individual with a history of distinguished service to the community and is a 2020 inductee into the Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame.
